office installation process

Install only specific Office applications

If you are a Microsoft Office 2016 or 2019 user, you certainly noticed that the default setup doesn’t provide an option to install only specific Office applications, rather than the entire package. With older releases you were allowed to do that into the same installer.

We will show you the easiest way to custom install only the specific applications you do want on your computer. For example, you may not need the offline version of Outlook because you’re fine using it’s webmail counterpart.

Affortunatelly, there’s an official tool at disposal which makes you easier to customize your deployment.

We are talking about Office Deployment Tool. You can download the tool from this Direct Link or instead google for it.

Run the deployment tool, click on accept and Continue

If your office installation language differs from the example code, you need to modify it. For example, if your language is Spanish, you need to type es-ES.

Choose the language from your installation

You can choose between 64 bit or 32 version.

You can type 64 for 64-bit version and 32 for 32-bit version.

64bit and 32bit versions

Here’s the list of all applications that are excluded by default in this configuration file. So, for example, if you only want to install Excel, Word, and Powerpoint, you need to remove the proper lines.

These are the excluded office applications that are not going to be installed

Save your text file as “configuration.xml” into the folder where you have previously extracted your files.

Finally, press and hold the shift key on your keyboard and right click on your desktop or inside of any other window where the tool files are located.

If you’re using Windows 7 or 8, it shows as ‘Open command window here’
Press shift key while doing right click

Open your Powershell or CMD window and paste this command.

.\setup.exe /configure configuration.xml
Paste the code into Powershell
After you’ve pasted the code you just need to press enter
